| Shortly
after the end of WWII, the economic climate in the United States
was in an upheaval. Despite this turbulence, many business opportunities
were abounding. When young George Velonis returned from overseas
with the close of WWII, he and his younger siblings capitalized
on an important opportunity and needed jobs. They had the foresight
to recognize that the plumbing industry was a very profitable enterprise,
and at the time, demand was exceeding supply. |

| On a
chance meeting, George was introduced to Michael Kohler of Kohler Co. From this unexpected meeting, one of the most successful business
relationships was born. The Velonis family received the Kohler
line and from this point forward, put their name behind the craftsmanship
and technology of Kohler products.
Founded in 1947 by the Velonis family, Peabody Supply Co. is a family owned and operated plumbing and heating supply business
located in Peabody, MA. It began as a small hardware store,
B. S. Hardware, on Main Street in downtown Peabody. The original
entrepreneurs, who are children of Greek immigrants, consisted
of brothers Jim and George Velonis and sister Jessie Maharis.
In 1972, after outgrowing the facility on Main Street, the
Velonis family built a 36,000 square foot building in the Pulaski
Street Industrial Park. Today, this building serves as the current corporate
headquarters. In 1990, Jessie and George retired leaving Jim
Velonis as the sole proprietor. His sons Jim Jr. and Chris
are actively involved with the daily operations as branch and
division managers.
